Performative Empowerment Isn’t Progress: Why Women Entrepreneurs Need Power, Not Panels
Performative Empowerment Isn’t Progress…. It’s a Photo Op
Another empowerment breakfast.
Another all-women panel.
Another Instagrammable moment… with zero systemic shift.
Let me just say it plain: If I have to sit through one more “you go girl” keynote that ends in applause and inaction, I might scream.
Because I’ve been in those rooms.
I’ve worn the heels.
I’ve clapped at the slogans.
And then I’ve walked out, to the same pay gaps, the same funding deserts, the same patriarchal pipelines gatekeeping power from women like us.
Real Talk: We’re Celebrating Symbolism While Starving for Support
You know what I’ve noticed?
It’s the same five women circulating the same ten panels, giving the same soundbites, while the rest of us are locked out of the systems that actually shift lives.
Let me hit you with the data:
Women make up 29% of startup founders, yet receive just 2.3% of VC funding.
We hold only 1 in 4 executive roles in top companies.
Black women? Even less. Just 0.27% of all venture capital.
This isn’t empowerment.
It’s performance.
Analogy Time: It’s Like Being Invited to the Wedding, But Not Given a Seat at the Table
Imagine being invited to a glamorous wedding… the dress code is fancy, the cameras are flashing, the vibes are immaculate.
But you realize… you’re not on the guest list.
You’re working the event.
That’s what performative empowerment feels like.
We’re dressed up for the show.
But when it’s time to sign the checks, sign the deals, or shift the laws?
We’re still on the outside.
Visibility Without Access Is Just a Spotlight on Silence
Look, I love women being visible.
I love a beautiful campaign.
But if visibility isn’t paired with infrastructure, funding, and systemic pathways?
Then all we’ve done is give the illusion of progress while women quietly burn out behind the scenes.
And let me speak from experience:
When I launched She’s In Business, I didn’t need another panel.
I needed power.
I needed capital.
I needed to reverse-engineer systems that were never built for me — or for the women I serve.
And I did it.
Not because someone gave me a stage.
But because I built my own damn platform — then invited other women to rise with me.
Enough With Clapping for Crumbs
The problem isn’t the panels.
It’s that we’re mistaking panels for progress.
Empowerment isn’t a vibe.
It’s a verb.
It’s not about slogans.
It’s about systems.
We don’t need another “10 Tips for Boss Babes” eBook.
We need equity.
We need seats at the investment tables.
We need laws that protect women’s ownership, entrepreneurship, and safety.
And we need to stop rewarding the optics while ignoring the outcomes.
Here’s What REAL Empowerment Looks Like:
Access to capital… not just “visibility.”
Infrastructure to scale.. not just “inspiration.”
Mentorship that opens doors. not just likes and shares.
Curriculum that trains CEOs. not followers.
And that’s exactly what we do inside She’s In Business.
Because I’m not here for the photo ops.
I’m here to build financial, structural, and emotional equity for every woman ready to claim it.
The Bottom Line:
If you’re tired of the clapping.
If you’re done being inspired with no action.
If you’re not clapping for crumbs anymore…
Comment below: “ENOUGH.”
Let’s turn the page.
Let’s take the mic.
Let’s build the damn system.
Because we weren’t born to perform.
We were born to lead.
